Abstract
This dataset was compiled over a period of 6 years using advanced GIS technology to create a single geodatabase in which all the best-available geological maps, irrespective of scale, were stitched together into a single seamless dataset. To create the NSW 1:1,500,000 scale geology map, the Seamless Geology data was substantially simplified by grouping units based on age and lithology and removing stratigraphic unit nomenclature. The data was then further simplified by removing small or narrow units to enable the best display of the map at a scale of 1:1,500,000. Major geological provinces of New South Wales and Lord Howe Island are shown as inset maps.
