Abstract
The Wollongong-Port hacking 1:100000 Geological Sheet covers much of the southern part of the Sydney Basin. Rocks of Permian and Triassic age crop out with similar areas of Cainozoic sediments, and volcanic rocks ranging in age from Jurassic to late Tertiary. This area contains widespread economic deposits of Permian coal and lies within the Southern Coalfield. Coal was first recorded in 1796 by Bass and Flinders and mined as early as 1828.
