Abstract

This map portrays deposits of a range of commodity types. These include metallic, industrial, coal and selected construction material sites with a known commodity endowment (past production and global resources). Sites with a known commodity endowment of less than A$10 000 are shown as a point only. There has been no attempt to reflect the potential of an area. The Bathurst 1:250 000 metallogenic map displays: (1) metallic mineral deposits show as a symbol indicating the mineral system type, the relative A$ value and a reference number; (2) industrial mineral deposits shown by a symbol indicating the mineral system type (where applicable), the relative A$ value and a reference number; (3) selected construction material sites with commodity type, relative A$ value and a reference number; (4) the location of aerially extensive gold placers - many of which were mined during the mid to late 19th century; and (5) the aerial extent of geological units containing significant, generally un-quantified, limestone resources. The reference number given to each symbol relates to the table below the map. This table gives the deposit name (where known) and its major-(minor) commodities. Hard rock metallic and industrial mineral deposits shown on the Bathurst 1:250 000 map generally relate to the Ordovician to Carboniferous Lachlan Orogen (see Geological History on the reverse side of the map). As a consequence, younger cover units, including those relating to the Permo-Triassic Sydney Basin, the latest Eocene to late Miocene volcanic units and unconsolidated sedimentary rocks of mainly Quaternary age, are shown as semi-transparent overlay of basement units.
