Comments

High-resolution (1:25 000 or better) digital mapping of the coastal Quaternary deposits of NSW was done as part of the Comprehensive Coastal Assessment. A series of 1:100 000 and 1:25 000 hard copy maps has been produced. They are double-sided and show a 1:100 000 overview of the Quaternary geology on one side. On the reverse side are two to four maps of key areas at 1:25 000. The Quaternary geology was combined with existing 1:250 000 bedrock mapping, and the GIS-based map product was complemented by linked databases, such as the location of past mineral sands mining, mining and quarrying activity, field sampling data and sediment characteristics. The products can assist with land-use planning and natural resource management issues - for example, in assessing geological hazards, land-use capability or finding extractive resources.
