Some of these units are extensive - in thickness and areal extent. Early Devonian volcanic units and granites (such as the Bogong Granite) were the last of the Palaeozoic rocks formed in the Tumut 1:100,000 map sheet area. The geological history discussed in the Notes is from the perspective of terrane analysis. Younger units include a Jurassic lamprophyre dyke and Cainozoic igneous and sedimentary units - including sands and gravels (with some high-level sediments worked for gold.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMost of the 295 metallic mineral deposits shown on the map contain gold. Hard-rock gold occurrences are widespread: veins (in various units); reefs in the Nack Nacka Metabasic Igneous Complex; and veins and fissure fillings in a wide range of rocks. Many of the gold occurrences were found in the Adelong Creek Goldfield - and there are four other declared goldfields. Most of the (hard-rock) gold occurrences seem to be of metamorphic hydrothermal origin. There are two aquifier-bearing depositionl sequences within the Tertiary succession. At least four forms of capping silcrete are present. They formed on outcropping Plio-Pleistocene clay-cemented quartz arenites, primarily the Parilla Sand, probably around 0.7 Ma to 0.4 Ma ago. Nearby Pliocence-hosted heavy mineral sands deposits are potential sources of titania for the silcretes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe extensive, flat, semi-arid Pooncarie map area is areally dominated by interacting Quaternary morphostratigraphic units of aeolian, lacustrine and fluvial depositional systems that are now largely inactive. Pliocene marine Loxton Sands - hosted heavy mineral sand deposits were formed as beach placers in topographic embayments. The Broken Hill Block North 1:50,000 metallogenic map area contains a wide variety of mineral deposit types, and many significant prospects. Nearly all of the 1,300 mineral occurrences shown on the map are hosted by the Early Proterozoic Willyama Supergroup, a metasedimentary sequence, with lesser metamorphosed acid and basic magmatic rocks.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe northern part of the Broken Hill Block includes the areas of lowest metamorphic grade, permitting a better understanding of the geology, rock types and some mineral deposit types. Stratiform deposits include Broken Hill type, Ettlewood type, Corruga type, Sisters type, and Great Eastern type deposits. Broken Hill type deposits consist of lead-zinc sulphide concentrations with associated granular quartz-gahnite\/garnet \"lode horizons\". They occur in clusters, with small, but significant production from the Allendale and Southern Cross-Parnell mines. Drilling at the Stephens Trig and Peppertree prospects obtained some of the best lead-zinc intersections found outside the Broken Hill Main Lode.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEttlewood type deposits are confined to the Ettlewood Calc-Silicate Member. This type contains significant amounts of scheelite, sphalerite and minor galena, but the known calc-silicate bodies are too small to host an orebody. Following the Delamerian Orogeny, the belt has undergone a rich history of multiple uplift, sedimentation and deformation throughout the Phanerozoic.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Koonenberry Belt is prospective for a range of commodities including gold, copper and nickel and is underexplored by modern exploration methods. Since 1995 the Koonenberry Belt has been a focus of investigation by the Geological Survey of New South Wales.
